If you had a blue eyed baby, how did they turn blue?

My 7 week old was born with dark blue eyes. Recently, right around her pupil I've noticed a bright blue ring.

My husband said his son's (from an ex girlfriend) eyes did the same thing with the bright blue ring and his son has some of the brightest blue eyes.

Blue eyes run on both of our family's side although me and DH have brown eyes so I know we are both carriers of the gene.

So if you have a blue eyed child, how did their eyes start changing to the blue that they are now?

  • I am not sure about the changing as my oldest son had blue eyes from the start and my younger son had brown eyes from the start.

  • My dd has crystalline blue eyes, they shifted around 3 months from dull grey to bright blue.

  • Yes! I often have wondered if it is from the pupils not adjusting to objects and light yet as a newborn. I don't really remember when I noticed them changing, but it didn't take too long.

I had blue eyes till I was a teenager, and they gradually shifted to green. My side is mostly blue and green eyes, while DH's side is hazel.

  • All 3 of my kids were born with dark blue eyes. My dd 5 now has VERY pale blue was a very gradual change.

My sons are more of a true blue now...he is 7.

My 3rd is only 6 weeks...interested to see how hers turn out ....right now they are still dark blue.

  • The ones that kept their blue eyes started out with bright blue eyes. My son had darker blue eyes when he was born and they lightened up and he had the brightest blue eyes I've ever seen...until he was 5 and then suddenly they changed to green-blue.
My youngest daughter is about to turn 5 and she was born with bright blue eyes and they are still bright blue. My oldest was born with bright blue eyes but they are now a light brown/hazel color. My middle daughter and youngest son were both born with dark gray eyes. My dd's were so gray they looked almost black. Her eyes turned brown before she was 1. My son's were slightly lighter with a little steel blue in them. They are starting to turn brown at 8 months old.

  • All 5 of my kids were born with blue eyes. My oldest changed to green shortly after his 1st bday and my 2nd's changed to brown right around his 1st bday. My youngest son's eyes changed from blue to brown around his 1st bday also. Both of my girls have blue eyes, but I they are the same color as they were when they were born.

  • Most caucasian babies are born with gray blue eyes and they turn sometime during the first year.
My son had "baby blue" eyes and now they are the amazing hazel of his father.
