Junior high

moms rockThis is for moms of teen girls in jr. high. I know their will be an end of year school dance but I'm not sure if it will be formal or casual. So if anyone knows what they are like please let me know. I need to know if I should plan on buying her a really nice dress or just a really cute outfit.

  • I've never heard of a junior high school having an end of year dance.

  • I have a son, but at the dance the girls wore cute, very dressy, short cocktail dresses. Strapless or spaghetti straps. And heels!

  • My daughter is also in the 8th grade. At our school the eighth grade dance is called a " Semi Formal". The girls wear nice dresses, but no long gowns. Our school does not want the girls wearing prom dresses or anything with sequins. Most of the girls get their dresses at Deb, or Kohls or Macys. I would have your daughter ask some of her friends what they are wearing. I know at some schools it is a really big deal. Girls get their hair done and manicures and the whole nine yards. Some schools have had a problem with kids showing up in limos.

  • Our school has an 8th grade promotion and then a party/dance afterwards. The girls have made it into a mini-prom. They don't wear long dresses but super short, strapless, sequins with very high heels. They get their hair and nails done. They get a tan. The whole nine yards. I put some boundaries for my daughter. Her dress is a decent length. It isn't overly sexy. She will wear flats. I think they are rushing to grow up and I find that sad.

  • Our 8th grade dance is formal. Not gowns, but party dresses.
