Lottery question

so for drawings like mega millions and powerball are you supposed to call someone or something if you get a winning ticket. i know that the jackpot keeps going up til someone wins and the new jackpot is always up within a half hour of the drawing so is that because the winner called and claimed? idk how it works if you actually get the winning numbers

  • The lottery computer knows if a winning ticket was sold or not.

  • You have to call them. They will not call you; your information is not taken when tickets are sold, just your money.

  • A win under 600 can be paid out at ANY lottery retailer. Over that amount you gave to go to a lottery office to collect OR sign the ticket and mail it in to them to get a check mailed to you. Lots of states will take the tax OUT of your winnings.

  • If it's a small amount (under $600) you can go right to wherever you bought it (or anywhere that sells those tickets) and cash it in. No information is taken. If it's $600 or more you have to pay taxes on it and you'd have to go to a Lotto office to claim it and fill out a bunch of paperwork.
