I read/heard this a few weeks ago but i can remember where or from whom...

"How much sense does it make for someone to spend millions upon millions of dollars in an attempt to get a temporary jobs that only pays 6 figures?"

  • Well not everyone is motivated by money... but if your talking about the presidency (which i'm assuming you are given the catagory placement) they aren't spending their own money so what do they care. Most of the presidential candidates come from big money anyway.

And lets not pretend that the money they get as salary is the only money they make from the deal.

  • Lawmakers make millions while in office and after so to them it worth it. Look at the Clintons they were doing OK before Bill became President now they are worth over 100 million. So spending millions of other peoples money was worth it to them. Congressknows in advance how the things they do will possibly impact different companies and can buy and sell stock knowing this info it has been lucrative for many of them. There are many benefits to being a politician long after they leave office. Most don't have to spend much of their own money they find ways to get people of less means and their rich friends to finance the campaign for them. I think a better question would be why on Earth would anyone give money to a rich person so they can run for office? They can pay for it themselves people should put their money to better use and invest it into the own life.

A LOT of politicians do indeed spend their own money on their campaigns.

  • It doesn't make sense to most of us. I think most do it for the prestige, and some do it because they want to make a difference. Sadly those who do it to make a difference are vastly outnumbered by the career politicians. That is why we need term limits.

IIRC, the first home that the Clintons have ever owned, is the one they purchased in NY after his Presidency-
