How do you feel about boys playing with dolls?

MY 3 year old son like to play with his sisters dolls even when she is not home. I think it's cute and good practice for being a dad but Daddy takes them away. What do you think

  • I think if my husband took the doll away I'd give it right back.  My 5 year old plays with his sisters dolls with them, I see nothing wrong with it.  My girls also play with my sons tool bench.

  • Well, I'm sure your husband would have had a fit at seeing his son "cooking dinner" for his baby doll at his kitchen, wearing a mardi gras necklace, like my 2 1/2 year old was doing yesterday, heh. It's perfectly normal, I don't know why some men (and even some women) have issues with that. Thankfully, my husband doesn't care at all.

  • I think its sad daddy took them away.. My son loves to play kitchen, wear pretend necklaces but also loves his cars and trucks.. We brought him to build a bear and he picked out a pink bear and at first, dad did have a problem with it but he'd never not let his son express himself no matter how HE felt about it... at 3, he's just playing with toys.

  • Like you said, it's practice for being a Daddy. In fact, if your son's daddy participates in parenting then your son may just be imitating his father by playing with the dolls in the first place, same as he would imitate Daddy by playing with his pretend tools. The kid is only 3 for heaven's sake. I think Dad should let him be.

  • Perfectly normal and the more attention drawn to it the more unusual he will think it is. Boys should be allowed to play with "girl" things and vice versa.

  • I have no problem with it. How else are boys going to learn how to be a daddy?

  • It's no different than a girl playing with a matchbox car.

  • we have all girls so ive never been in that situation. i do think though that my husband would probably act the same way about it, ignorant. like houston said id give that doll right back.

  • I don't see any problem with it, my sons all played with dolls, they have sisters, its going to happen. They are only toys, he is 3, he is just playing like any typical 3 year old would. My brothers played dolls and barbies with me growing up and they grew up to be great husbands and daddys...like you said, it is a good way for him to practice.
