Is my daughter behind?

My daughter is exactly 5 months old and she can roll over from her tummy to her back and now recently learned how to roll from her back to tummy. She can't sit up on her own tho... i know a lot of babies that crawl around 6-7 months...how is she gonna crawl by then if she cant even sit herself up now? Is she behind or am i just gettin to anxious? lol

  • She is completely fine. All babies learn how to do certain things at different times than others. Her rolling over right now is perfect. Just watch, she'll be sitting up and crawling before you know it. And if you wanna help her sit up, you can buy a bumbo. They help pretty good.

  • I think you're just getting anxious. My daughter went from not even sitting up to creeping, crawling, standing up, and walking around furniture in three weeks. Seriously, it happened THAT fast. And she didn't do anything until she was 7 months old. We didn't even have time to get anything baby proofed! LOL

You can help her sit up on her own. Pull her to a sitting position and help her hold it. This will teach her.

I also suggest getting some standing toys to help keep baby's motivation up and off the floor. We purchased an activity table and a walker (not one that you put baby in, but one that baby pushes around). This helped keep our daughter interested in what was "up" versus her old stuff. New interests, you could say. =)

  • She is doing great! There is a wide, normal, range of ages for when babies can sit up, crawl, etc. You might look up online some of these things and see how wide the ranges are for each. Relax and enjoy!

  • She's fine. Heck, my older son was crawling on his hands and knees long before he could sit up (by himself or with me sitting him up). He would just tip over because of his big ol' head, lol. My kids were all rolling between 3-5 months and crawling between 5-7 months. My 8mo can crawl all over and sit pretty good now but he was definitely crawling before he could sit for a long period of time without falling over. He still can't get into a sitting position on his own. I have to sit him down.

  • Mine can't sit up alone yet either. All babies progress at different rates.

  • I use a Bumbo too, and I also help her sit up when we sit somewhere together. She'll lean over on her face, then slowly push herself up with her hands. She gets frustrated, but she's getting better at it. Be patient!
