Jobs for 14 - 15 year old?

My 14 year old is interested in finding a summer job. We know that the local grocery store hires 14 and 15 year olds to bag and carry out groceries, but we are not having much luck finding a list of employers who will hire kids her age. Do you have any ideas for other places she could look for a job?

  • babysit, lawn mowing. its hard to find places that will hire under the age of 16 but there is plenty of things she can do on her own for neighbors.

  • Because of the child labor laws, it is hard to find some where to work under the age of 16.

  • Camps hire junior counselors, or paper delivery. Maybe mowing lawns for neighbors. In PA you can get working papers at 15 and begin working, most places only let you work like 4 hours and not past 9 or something, but its better then nothing. Maybe an ice cream stand or water ice stand depending on your state. Check local papers, some people need odd yard work done, but id go with and check out the people. (or if you have a girl, babysitting or nanny or something since kids are out of school in the summer.

  • When I was a manager at Applebee's we had a hostess who was 15, but there were very strict laws about what hours and how many hours she could work - it was a pain for scheduling which is why many places won't allow it. I overheard someone at Chick-Fil-A saying the other day that they sometimes hire at 15, but prefer not to.
Babysitting would be a easier job, and almost as much money if she can find someone who wants a teen to care for their kids while they work this summer.

  • At least in Michigan, you can detassle corn starting at age 13. The pay is good, but the work sucks.
