How do I find services for an autistic child

I have a newly diagosnosed child with Autism age 6 and new to find activites to help her

  • Speak with the special needs teacher at your child's school. They should have information on that sort of stuff.

  • I started with the county developmental diabilities services. They were great!

  • Talk to the region service centers for you area. They should have a child find program in your area. If you need anything I have websites etc.. geared towards autism. (I have been a special needs teacher for 9 years). Just message me.

  • Contact the Autism Society of America. There are many state chapters & some places even have local chapters (my city does). They can link you up with local services & supports, including other parents and possibly even a local support group to attend. You can find more information on their website: http://www.autism-society.org/

    Other options are speaking with the special education department of your local school district, contacting your county human services dept. for information and if you have a local children's hospital, you may also be able to obtain more information through their social services dept.

  • Call your local Parks and Recreation Department. Ours has a ton of special programs for children and adults with autism.

  • Speak to your childs school ,if they do not attend school call the your local early intervention,early coalition,child find program. Also you can look in the phone book and go down the list of therpay places ect and ask them who they suggest as a starting point. Good lUck!! Its a long road sometimes for services but your on the right track:)
