Does your baby have a special way they like to be burped or a way you find easier to get them to burp?

my 3 month old hated being patted on the back and i could never get her to let one out leaning her against my shoulder patting her back (unlike my first lol).
I found just sitting her up on my lap would allow her to belt on out. I just found it amusing... that sometimes the simplest things like getting your baby to burp can be some of their weirdest traits.

  • My kids were not good burpers. Finally I figured out what worked for them. I would sit them on my knee and hold them upright with my hand holding up their head, I would bounce my knee a bit and pat them on the back with my other hand. But their bodies had to be very straight.
    Huge burps EVERYTIME!

  • My first would only burp if she was on her tummy across my lap.

Middle son just let it go without any prompting- farts too, he was such a LOUD gassy baby! lol

The third... he was a spitter, and couldn't burp without puking. It was HILARIOUS when, after they had been warned, people would still put him over their shoulder... then have to walk around with booby milk puke down their back.

  • Mine burped best when they were laying tummy down on my legs. I guess the pressure on their tummies helped?

  • the easiest I have found with many babies is, braced sitting up on your knee. Happens pretty fast.

  • Only with my oldest and my grandson. My oldest would scream if you patted his back. I would very lightly trace a circle around his crown. He burped everytime. I think he was just a tense baby and that relaxed him enough to burp. GS had to be across the knees.

  • My baby's always been a great sel burper =] She doesn't mind the over-the-should pat, but she seems to burp easier (and happier) when I sit her on my lap sideways and pat her back. I also rub her back in between pats, to "move" the gas bubble up.
