So, how many civilian deaths are acceptable when saving the people of Libya?

I mean we are saving them...right? How many innocents is it ok to kill, in order to "save" the people?

  • NONE. As the question implies. No matter how much you "love" the people of Libya all of a sudden. This is not our war neither was the other 2 wars we are currently fighting. And yes America was brats that have turned into bullies and the conclusion is we are bullying 2(3 now) countries to be like us.

  • there's no formula, hon. its just a fact of 'war'..or 'liberation' as we like to call it these days. consider it the lesser of two evils, if you want to be that simple-minded.
do you suggest we/others just continue to ask nicely that he behave himself, and turn our backs, hoping for the best? when we do that with children, they are called brats. and when our children continue to hurt things/people around them, they are called bullies...and we all know what bullies turn into. its a vicious cycle.
it'd be awesome if someone could flip a switch and make everything all better..but that's not reality. there's dirty work afoot..and until you find that switch, this is how its done. (sorry you don't like my answer!)

  • CHarlan, contrary to what you see on tv, the regular people in Iraq and Afghanistan think American's are the bomb. Many of them are surprisingly westernized.

I did not agree with the strike on Libya to begin with..while necessary it should have been Arab led. However, they lack the military resources to do it. I do think they should be forking out some serious cash, which they do have, to pay for it.

As to the OQ, would the collateral damage have been worth it if a coalition of forces had decided to stop Hitler?

  • I don't care about the torture chamber.

Your question asked how many civilians had to die. These awful dictators kill their own people or they wouldn't be 'awful'. Funny though, as soon as it was a Al Jazeera source which won't be questioned, the torture chamber is not an issue. It is the device used to kill. Why don't you care? Because, it is no longer US 'propaganda'.

  • wait..after all their 'leader' has done to his own want to lay blame on those attempting to help those he didn't kill??
    golly gee, jethro...i'm confused!

  • Al Jazeera confirmed the torture chamber after the revolt started. Maybe you'll believe Al Jazeera. Gaddafi ordered the bombing of Pan Am 103. He ordered the bombing of the Berlin night club where Americans were killed. Do you remember the issues in the 1980's? Why do people always jump to side with anyone other than their own country? Everything isn't propaganda.

  • This guy, gaddafi, had a torture chamber under the main street in Tripoli. How do you ask a question like this when gaddafi murders his own people and has for years? When a village turns out to help the pilot of the crashed US fighter, takes him home, feeds him and sings to him.....I think that lets me know the civilians are glad we are there!

  • Are we "saving" Libya, or helping Al Qaeda?

  • How stupid could some of you be? We are not there to safe the people!

And remember they are not calling this a war!

They also think you are stupid!
