When should I start worrying?

My daughter is 13 years old and will be 14 in November. She hasn't started her period yet. My older daughter got her period when she was 12. My 13 year old did get it slightly a few months ago but that was it. Should I be concerned?

  • I agree!! If she started slightly a few months ago, then that's a good sign!! A lot of girls are verrry irregular when they first start. I was 9 when I started and figured my daughter would be young as well, but she's gonna be 13 and hasn't yet.

  • Dont worry. I didnt get mine until i was 17 (yes 17) yet i was on my way to developing breasts at age 12! so i wouldnt worry at all. :) if your really concerned see a dr but i got mine late in life and was glad too. Iv had a baby never had any big issues either.

  • Nope shes fine. If she had it and it stopped that is very normal. Many teens have inconsistent cycles. There are so many factors, like is she athletic? Thin? Hormone issues also come into play. It sounds like she will be inconsistent is all before she starts getting them regularly. If she hasnt started by 16 then Id go for a doctor appointment.

  • Id be more worried if she got it at 7 or 8 like some girls do these days. Study's show that kids who eat more chicken than other meats get it early do to the growth hormones. Id say dont worry yet. There are no hard and fast rules about starting your period, but if she's well developed physically and still no period you might want to ask an OB.

  • She's probably fine. My daughter didn't start her's until well after her fourteenth birthday. If she doesn't start by sixteen or she continues to be very irregular, talk to a doctor.
