What does it mean, when your vacume smells like burnt tires?

My neighbor left a vacume out by the trash can and I took it home and tried it.It worked but soon smelled bad like burnt tires. Can you fix this?

  • if you rinse out the collection bucket with bleach water you shouldnt get bugs or germies from their house. just wash before use and again the 1st time you use/empty it. Usually the burnt tire smell is a belt, check the manufacturer's website and see where they sell replacements.

  • It's the belt...I would try to reposition it, loosen the cover it's rubbing on....but since it's a garbage find, that's probably why it was out there lol. There might be something wrong with the motor too. You can always take it to the vacuum repair shop

  • If its the belt, it will look melted. Its a cheap DIY repair job.
