  • There isn't a set age. There are signs that cues that you should follow. I've seen some kids potty trained by a year and some not potty trained until 3 1/2. GL

Of course, teaching a toddler to use the potty isn't an overnight experience. The process often takes between 3 and 6 months, although it may take more or less time for some children.

Also, some experts may recommend starting the process during summer because kids wear less clothing, but it is not a good idea to wait if your child is ready.

    Here are some signs :

    follow simple instructions
understand words about the toileting process
control the muscles responsible for elimination
express a need to go verbally
keep a diaper dry for 2 hours or more
get to the potty, sit on it, and then get off the potty
pull down diapers, disposable training pants, or underpants
show an interest in using the potty or wearing underpants

  • My daughter's pediatrician said not to rush things, she suggests between 18-24 months, it can be a long drawn out process if you start too early. My daughter is 2 1/2 and has no interest at all and I have yet to find anything that makes her want to do it.

  • You can start at any age you want to! Just realize the earlier you start the longer it will probably take. I started my daughter at 9 months and by one year she was using one diaper at night and just one during the day. She was completely potty trained by 18 months. My boys I started at 1 year and at 18 months (haven't started my 3rd son yet, though want to. He is 16 months).
