Cereal and less soiled diapers

Our breastfed DS started cereal (oatmeal) a few days ago and has only had one soiled diaper per day since. I was expecting to have less, but going from 4 to 1 is more of a change than I expected. We skipped the oatmeal today because he hasn't gone yet, but I'm curious about others experiences.

  • Do you mean soiled as in poopy diapers? If so then the oatmeal might be clogging the pipes and some inervention (apple juice, prune juice, or something with lots of fiber) might be needed. If you mean wet diapers only then that isn't normal. Less poopy diapers is expected, but the child should still be having wet diapers as normal.

  • DD was the same way when we introduced cereal to her. I think it's normal.

  • Yes, it is normal for solids to have an affect on the bowels.
