  • My pediatricians recommended 6-8 months. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends 6-8 months as well.

I started cereal at 6 months, I think too many people rush this process and they start feeding solids too early. Here is a helpful website with some really good information regarding starting solids and why it is important to wait until 6 months.

  • My baby is 5 months old. My doc said she could have baby cereal and applesauce at 4 month appt. I tried 2 times that week baby wasn't really into it. I did a feeding 2 times a week and now she loves it once a day.

  • I asked the pedi and she says no earlier than 4 months b/c their little tummys are not strong enough to digest it properly, so I'm waiting. But my mother (28 years ago) gave it to me at a month or so and all my sisters and she just laughs at me now when I tell her no I have to wait until four months.

  • I always say nothing other then breast milk or formula until at least 6 mos of age. Keep in mind, that you don't ever HAVE to use infant cereal, you CAN, if you'd like, start with a fruit or veggie instead. Also keep in mind that solids are meant to be fed via spoon or self fed, never in a bottle. (unless a dr recommends it for a medical condition, and even then, I'd question it)

  • I started DD on Stage 1 solids at 4 months. My grandma was giving her rice cereal when she'd babysit, around 5 months. I just started her on Stage 2 solids, at 6 months, and she's done wonderfully. I gave her rice cereal the other day, but mine was wheat, and she wasn't too fond of it.
