When it comes to prescription medicine...Is it true that Medicaid patients get the Brand prescription while Private Insurance patients get the Generic Prescription?

  • Not true. For Medicare or Champus, or really any insurance company unless your Dr can provide in wrighting a clinical reason as to why the name brand only should be used and then ultimately it is up to the appeals process in the Ins Co and the patient as to what they want to pay for.

  • I don't think that is true, my mom gets generic with medicaid.

  • I don't think it is true either. The generic is just the same as the brand name, if that makes any difference. Same exact ingredients, they are just cheaper.

  • No. I had medicaid for the kids and when a generic is available that is what they get.

  • Probably because they heard somewhere all those poor people and children without insurance are milking the system by becoming sick and needing medication. How dare them!

  • DD has Medicaid. She gets the generic when there is one, otherwise she gets the brand name.
