Should I lay my 5 month old on his stomach?

My son is 5 months old, and I heard that your supposed to lay babies on their stomachs so that they can improve their muscles? Is this true. Every time I try to lay him on his stomach he just gets mad and crys.

  • I always started this with my kids earlier than 5 months, but I would lay on my back and put my legs up in the air then lay them on my shins. Mine always liked it better than me just laying them on their tummy to start out. Also, sometimes I would lay next to them with my head in front of theirs and sing songs to them.

  • You should have been doing this since birth.

  • I think its true, he'll probably hate it at first b/c its new. But I think you're supposed to start doing it a bit earlier than five months so that's probably why he gives you a hard time. Maybe just really get in his face and distract him while he's on his tummy. Also, try him on a different surface while you're right there with him of course. We put our DD on a boppy somtimes.

  • babies should get tummy time from about a month old. they may hate it at first, but even just 5 minutes here or there is fine.

  • Babies need tummy time. If they don't get it they will have delayed head control/crawling amongst other things.
