How old should kids be when they first get a bunk bed?

Is three too little for top?

  • My boys were 3 and 5 and had good rails on the top, but I didn't put the 3 year old up there :) Depends on what you know you're child is ready for though :)

  • It's up to you. We just got one - my son was four. The rails around it are great. We got it at Bob's. It is really cute and sturdy. It has stairs going up and each stair pulls out and is a drawer. I really don't see how anyone could fall out, it's almost like a crib with rails on all 4 sides.

  • His brother is younger, so he would go on top.

  • I can tell you my parents bought a similar bunk bed for my sister & myself & I was 11. I fell off or slipped off those stairs on a regular basis. My opinion is a 5 year old is way too young to be on top of any bunk bed.

  • We bought one almost identical to the picture above when our son was about 3 and a half. He sleeps on the bottom, but is allowed on the top to play as long as he stays seated (hes 4 and a half now). I dont think there is a set age, depends on the child.
