At what age did you start your baby on solid foods?

DD will be 5 months on Sunday and she has been eating gerber baby food since she turned four months. Only reason is because just breastmilk/formula wasn't cutting it anymore for her.

  • DS started baby food at 4 months and solids at 6 months. DD started baby food at 7 months and solid food at more around 9 months.

  • I was an overly excited mom with my first and started him at 3 months. By the time I had my 3rd child, she was starting solids at 6 months. I think in my experiences, 6 months is a good age. They are more ready for the solids at that point. I dislike the "they stopped getting full with formula/breastmilk so I started with cereal" excuse. I don't think there's a need for it before 6 months...and most doctors agree. :)

  • With my first it was around 5 months we started with stage 1 babyfood..he was on cereal in his bottle since about a month old because he couldnt hold down formula at all and I plan on starting stage 1 baby food with my 2nd next month at 5 months also. Solid/Table Food we didnt start till close to 9-10 months when he was completely off the bottle.

  • Six months. Remember that breastmilk or formula is still the main meal, all the way to age 1, and they're SUPPOSED to act like ravenous littl critters. Solids are a treat.

  • 5 mos with my oldest, when I didn't know any better/different, and we started with oatmeal. 8 mos with my youngest, started with zucchini, and it wasn't an everyday thing, just a few bites every few days until he really became interested at 11 mos. Breastmilk/formula is the main source of nutrition until 12 mos, so they're generally not a necessity before then.
