advice on chow mixes

My brother just adopted a 3 yr old chow mix from a shelter, they think it is a mix with golden retriever.

My mother is giving him a really hard time about it, because of some articles she read on the internet. Apparently the dog has black spots on his tounge, and she says that is a sign of danger. My brother and his fiancee have no kids, and so far, the dog has been really great.

Does anyone know more about this, have a personal exp., or expert advice? And if the dog is a danger, what are the warning signs?

  • well chows are a stuborn breed and do require a different approach, but if its a mix behavior might be very different... you really gotta watch dogs behavior for any bad signs. One thing though I doubt shelter will let you adopt an agressive dog without a warning, they do test they in different ways and usualy dogs that are agressive are put down :(

  • when i was younger i had a chow/golden retriever mix and she was a smart and friendy dog. And she to was a shelter dog and had a spotted tounge. so no i dont think there is any danger oh and she was also abuse as a puppy. so i hope this helped cause if could find another dog like her i'd keep her cause we had to give her up when we moved. and if the dog isnt aggressive there's nothing to worry about
