usually if you feel like you cant achieve simple goals, if you feel like crap all the time and see there is nothing good to look forward to, you self harm, you are pessimistic, you are always tired (apart from other reasons why your tired). should be for a period of more then 4 weeks. if it is just a simple i feel liek crap i hate my life only once in a while it may not be depression but just life.
there are heaps of online services that give your symptoms checklists and you can do an online test to see if you may have it so you can discuss with your dr when your go see them next.
remember if you are depressed or think you are there is always people around to have a chat so use them.
depression is a mental illness and it only gets better with talking about it, in some cases medication or implementing new activities such as excercise, a hobby etc. but im not an expert just a person who was in a bad place for a long time.
