Seeds and plants - do you go heirloom for flavor or regular for easy to grow?

  • For flowers, I like the easy grow. But for edibles (especially tomatoes) it's GOT to be heirloom. :-)

  • I planted four varieties of tomatoes last summer. The heirloom (I think black zebra and red zebra were the varieties) gave me a total of three tomatoes on two plants. The 50-cent tomato plants I grabbed by the cash register kept fruiting all summer. The source of my non-producing plants was a well-known heirloom tomato maven in our town.
