At what age should my daughter dress herself in the morning?

She is not a morning person at all, but I know she can dress herself(for the most part).

  • My niece's girls 5 & 7 dress themselves in the AM and have been doing it for awhile. One takes a lot longer then the other. They lay out the clothes the night before with their mom.

  • By 4 years old. Shoes and everything by Kindergarten. My girls are 6 and 8 and I don't pick out clothes for them anymore. They do a good job.

  • My kids were able to dress themselves by 2-3 years old. Socks were a little harder, and buttons, but they could do most of it.

  • age 3, my son can get all his clothes on himself...including socks.
I won't expect him to do it until closer to 4 though on his own. He needs a little help with some things.

  • Dress them self whenever they are developmentally ready... pick out their clothing for the day... it depends on the child. Every child is different so its hard to put an age on things like this, but my 6 year old step son has dressed him-self without help since he was 3, but I still lay out his clothes for him :)

  • My 5 year old is 100% capable of dressing himself completely from top to bottom, has been since he was about 2.5. However, does he do it at 7:30am before preschool? HAHA I wish! Typically I dress that boy completely, stand him up and walk him halfway across the living room before he's even awake enough to mumble incoherent statements. My parents were dressing me well into 1st grade before school, because I AM NOT in NO WAY a morning person, and if they waited on me to dress myself I'd never have made it to school. And DS is the same way. I'm hoping it gets better next year for kindergarden, but I'm not holding my breathe lol.
