Any tips for frying fish?

The coating never seems to stick for me. I'm using cornmeal. Do I need to dip it in anything to get it to stick?

  • Dip it in beaten egg before coating anf the breading will stick. Also the oil needs to be hot enough when you put the breaded fish in or the breading will fall off.

  • dip in a beaten egg, you can add some milk to it too if you want. If you want to do even better dip the meat, poultry or fish into flour first, then the egg wash then the breadcrumbs. I also tend to use panko style breadcrumbs and fry for only a minute on each side then finish the cooking by baking it

  • Thanks ladies...the egg worked perfect. The package says to use ice water (soak for 15 mins) but that is crazy dumb. I need to try the panko. DH hates cornmeal batter, but I love it.

  • Also..butter has great flavor but it burns...so fry in cooking oil, but add two teaspoons of butter for flavor and the pil is for crispness!

  • Coat it in egg or milk first then the batter do it again if you'd like.
