What goes on with a ct scan? help please

Like how long does it last?

Do they tell you the results right then?

How do they make a baby stay still without sedating them?

  • depends what they are scanning for, probably takes 15 minutes and the scans are done in a few minute increments. No you usually don't get the results right there - you'll have to go back to your doctor. Can't answer the baby question and how they keep them still. So sorry. Good wishes your way.

  • They almost always sedate baby's for a CT scan. How long it takes depends on what body part they are scanning. If it's the head and an adult it takes about a half hour may be allot less for a baby as they are allot smaller.

  • A CT scan can take anywhere from 15 minutes to an hour just depending on what part they are scanning. Usually with a child the only way to do it is to sedate them because if they move then they have to start the scan over and this will only irritate the child more. I know it seems scary but most nurses that do the scans are extremely nice and you are allowed to stay in there with the child. I'm sorry you are having to go through this. I hope everything turns out alright.
