Yoga or Pilates? Which do you prefer?

I have a yoga DVD and just ordered a pilates DVD and am gonna try them both out until I decide which is better for me. Or maybe just keep doing both. This is my complete workout plan:

3x/week cardio
2x/week strength training
1x/week yoga (or maybe a few short sessions even on same days as other workouts)
Pilates same as yoga

Then when I decide which I prefer, I'll do the yoga or pilates 2x/week or a few short workouts.

  • I'd say do both. They do different things, really, but I agree with Elysium927, they really do compliment each other. Try both DVDs and see what you like better. Pilates is more for strength, whereas yoga is more for balance and flexibility.

  • I teach yoga and I think they both compliment eachother. One isn't better just find what works for you also the teacher makes a difference. Some classes at a gym have a weekend trained aerobic instructor. A true yoga and pilates instructor has many hours in their pocket so to speak. As a teacher my style is hands on. I do very little of what I teach to keep students safe. The pilates classes I take the teachers are the same way. Try both do both, play & have fun!!!

  • I liked the yogalates class I took before I got pregnant last year. It was the best of both worlds.
