Friendless

My daughter is 18 years old. She is very nice, a little shy at first but also very funny. She graduated high school 2010 and now is left with a very few girlfriends. She has guy friends (according to her more simpler to make). All of her girlfriends either moved away to college! She is doing her college online right now because she likes the learning style better. Problem is, all these guys keep asking her to hangout but she doesn't have any girlfriends to bring along. She doesn't want it to be a bunch of guys and her, she wants a group. Please tell me any ideas of where she could meet some new friends. We live in troy, michigan if that helps. I hate to see her home so early on a friday night. A lot of her youth is passing her up! She also doesn't have a job but she's applied to so many places and so far no luck.
If you ladies have any advice, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

  • There is a strictly platonic section on craigslist.. I know, I know.. a lot of people don't agree that its safe, but I used it to make friends in my area when I moved from MI to TX that had similar interests. As long as you take the precautions and are smart about meeting people from online, then it's not a bad way to meet people.

  • What are her hobbies and interests? There are groups for everyone and every interest. I found friends going to birth circles because that's my hobby lol (not GIVING birth, but learning about it). There are sewing/knitting circles and book clubs and coffee meets and religious organizations and organizations for college students... the list goes on and on.

  • Places should be hiring pretty soon w/ summer coming. If she already has her applications in, she should start following up w/ a phone call to find out when they are going to be interviewing. If all else fails, she can gain experience & meet new people by doing volunteer work. I also thinks she needs to experience campus life & take classes on campus. Once there, she could look up different clubs that may interest her. She just has to put herself out there & she should have no problem making some new friends. :)
