Do you let your kids stay up later on the weekends?

What time do you think is an appropriate bed time for a 9 year old and a 4 year old child that doesn't have to get up for school the next day?

  • I guess I'm one of the few that believes no matter what day of the week or weekend it is, bedtime remains the same in my house. And late night weekends won't start until High School, unless there is a night activity dealing with school.

  • My kids go to bed at 7:30 on the weekdays.. they are 5 and 2, but I can see 9pm being okay later down the road. they just get too grumpy if they stay up too late.

  • My girls are ages 9,7 and 6 and school days in bed at 8 and weekends at night bed time is about nine oclock for them. They will get up the next morning between 8-9am. Kids still need their rest on the weekends as well as weekdays. But a lot depends on your family and works for you.

  • I guess that depends on the age of the child and what needs to be done the next day. I have a 6 yr old and two 3 yr olds. I usually have the younger kids in bead earlier (around 8:30-9) than my oldest, so that my oldest has some quiet down time with my husband and I. The oldest is in bed by 9:30-10.

  • I tried to make sure my kids had 9 hours of sleep when they were preteens, and 8 hours when they were teens (even though research suggests that teens need 10 hours -- I knew that wasn't gonna happen). If there was no need to get up early the next morning, I let them stay up 1 hour later than usual. If they stayed up too much later, they seemed to get cranky...even if they got back the extra hours of sleep in the morning.

  • I tend to let me kids stay up later on Fridays and saturdays. On school days i let my 12y/o saty up until 10 and i let my two 10y/os stay up until 9 but on weekend i let the 10y/os go to sleep no later tn 11 and let my 12 y/o stay up no longer than me which is normally around 1

  • As long as they behave they can stay up as long as they want too. They've NEVER made it to 9:30!!
