At what age did you let your daughter date?

My daughter is turning 16 at the end of the month and wants to date. I was wondering when others let their daughters date.

  • Well both of my girls are still little, but the age I think is most appropriate is 16. That was my rule growing up as well. I wasn't allowed to ride in cars with friends until I was 16 either unless it was necessary (which only happened 2 times, lol)

  • My oldest daughter is 12, and I'm not there yet, THANK GOD, lol...

  • Well, both my kids are *technically* allowed to date and they'll be sixteen in May. I say *technically* because it's not really that they're allowed today so much as they're not 'not allowed'. At their age, I have made clear that I have certain expectations from their relationships (i.e., I have to meet who they're seeing, if they go out I want to know when and where, stuff like that). You know your daughter well enough to know whether she's mature enough to be dating, but sixteen does seem to be a pretty standard age.

  • If you're not comfortable with a one on one you could always allow group dates. I was allowed to "go out" with a guy when I was 15.
