Do you have just a cell phone & no land line phone anymore?

We did away with our home phone years ago.

  • The land lines failed here after Katrina. During Gustav I was able to reach my son on the cell phone, but my daughters cell didn't work. I was in MD at the time and watching the weather channel doing live coverage. My son , his wife, my daughter and her SO were all on duty at court house, which is where they moved the Police Department they all work in. This same court house is where the Weather Channel that I was watching live, was reporting from when I saw the roof blow off of a building behind the weatherman, then his live feed was lost. I panicked until I got a call from my kids on the cell phone telling me they were all ok. The land lines were down for a while because of the wind and rain.
Basically, both landlines and cells are good to have, just in case.

  • Not a good idea, especially if you lived in NY during 9/11. You should always have a landline phone. Hate to be a bummer but look at what is happening all over the world right now. How would you contact family members if internet & cell towers were down? Landline phones work on their own current not electricity from the power Company, did you know that?

  • I have never had a home phone. I moved out of my parents in 2002 and that was the last land line I had.
