Or... meat sauce for pasta?

I think I've decided against the chili for tonight (thanks though, ladies!) so now I am thinking meat sauce and pasta.

I've made pasta sauce with hamburger before, but it's never seems to turn out quite right - either too saucy and not enough meat, or too much hamburger and not enough sauce.

So how can I make this taste right, if I decide to make it tonight?

  • My bf is Italian. In a large saucepan, cook the onions and garlic (and red or green pepper if desired) in olive oil until tender. Add the tomato sauce, tomato paste and seasonings. I use Italian seasoning plus oregano. Cover and bring to a slow boil. Turn down the heat and simmer for at least an hour, stirring occasionally. Taste and adjust seasonings. Let simmer a while longer. When you are just about ready to serve, fry up the ground beef and add to the sauce.

  • this is how i make mine, brown about a pound of hamburger meat with onion, garlic salt and italian seasoning, drain the grease off, add a jar of spaghetti sauce (my favorite is bertolli 5 cheese), cook until heated through, if it's too saucy add a tablespoon of butter, it takes the tomato taste down a notch

  • Oh, and add water as it cooks down so it stays quite liquid.

  • We use italian sausage. With certain sauces I add a small can of tomato paste and some more seasonings to make it thicker.
