Hungry after workout

Ok I have never understood this...after a good workout I am super hungry. I try to eat something good before hand so it wont happen but no matter what I am hungry. I tried drinking more water to kill the urge but still once that water is gone I'm hungry.

Is there anything to stop this?

  • you should be eating protein anyway after a workout....try a recovery drink so you don't crash and make sure you are eating enough carbs and calories throughout the day too...you will feel hungry b/c you are burning calories.

  • The thing about diet and exercise is that you have to actually eat more. You just have to control your portions. So instead of 3 huge meals try 5-6 smaller ones.

  • thats normal you have to eat afterwords your body needs it like protein, bananas are good before & after

  • I agree with adding proteins. Alot of people who work out, will drink a protein drink right after. Just watch the calories and sugar in them.
    I do whey protein from Wal Mart. It's under $19 and about 120 calories with skim milk.

  • yeah I heard a girl on youtube saying she drinks chocolate milk mixed with strawberries and bananas to help her body...I may have to try that.

  • You should eat after a workout. It's NOT defeating the purpose- it's replentishing your glycogen stores, and helping to rebuild torn muscle tissue. Your metabolism is higher after you work out, so don't stress too much. I love having a banana (maybe with a few almonds) after a workout. Or I'll even work out before I eat lunch.
