When women get pregnant, do they read books?

When I got pregnant I read everything that had to do with pregnancy and babies. I wanted to know everything there was to know (if that's really even a possibility). I read magazines and watch shows as well. Sometimes the questions on cafemom make me wonder just how prepared for kids these women were!

  • I started long before I was pregnant. I wanted to be a midwife (and still do). I LOVE birth books. I think that women now mistakenly assume that their doctors will tell them what they need to know, and that's why they don't read or take childbirth classes any more.

  • I read everything as well! However, I didn't start doing so until I was about 5-6 months pregnant with my 1st. I started reading What to Expect When You're Expecting when I was probably 10-12 weeks along, and it scared the crap out of me! I refused to even think about pregnancy and birth after that! But once I was further along, I WANTED to know everything, and found it comforting to read books that were geared more toward the natural birth process.
