  • Actually, your cardiovascular system can be ruined by not enough nutrients. If it is at all due to an eating disorder: heart failure, loss of potassium, muscle loss, hair loss, growth of extra body hair, los of periods, infertility, fatigue, tooth decay.

  • starving yourself is just as bad if not worse than being over weight because you don't have the nutrients or vitamins you need to function

  • Sometimes being underweight is a symptom of something else. One example might be Hyperthyroidism. The body's nutrients get sucked up by an overactive thyroid. Being underweight is a medical condition when a person's weight gets low enough. Some people have fast metabolisms and so despite their best efforts can't gain any weight. I had a similar problem while I was pregnant. I wasn't overweight to begin the pregnancy but lost almost 15 pounds before the end of the second trimester when I finally started to slowly gain weight. My baby was getting it all. Then she stopped getting so much and I was getting more... but that's another story for another post. :)

  • I'm underweight and asked my doctor. There really aren't any - at least that's what I was told. I tend to only have a problem when I get too sick to eat and start loosing weight. DD is underweight too. She's 14 and has failure to thrive. As far as having a weaker immune system, that's not been my experience. She and I don't get sicker any more often than average and overweight people.
