What to do?

My son usually naps from around 2pm-4pm. sometimes later waking up as late as 5:30 rarely but lately he's been staying up past 11pm sometimes past midnight until like 12:30 (usually he goes to bed around 10pm yes i know its too late but its what he does on his own) but if he doesn't get his nap then he's a butthole in the afternoon/evening so i'm wondering what to do should i give up the nap so he'll sleep earlier(the earliest he's ever gone to bed is like 9:10 anyway) or not?

  • Don't let him sleep in in the mornings, and put him down at 12-12:30 instead. He may not like it the forst couple of days, but he'll adjust quickly.

  • Try taking him on a few outings that wear him out and lay him down a bit earlier in the day (say 11am to noon) he will want to go to bed earlier but will start getting up earlier as well.

  • I agree with Renee. Wake him early.....NEVER let him nap after 4 pm (unless he is ill) Make a set bedtime - my kids were 8:30. Late enough that they felt tired and early enough I got some me time.....It will take some adjusting but YOU CAN DO IT

  • ladies are giving good advice.

    for your sanity perhaps do it slowly. Putting him down an hour earlier tonight. Waking him an hour earlier tomorrow. Do NOT put him down after 3/4. And do that for 2/3 days then bump it up an other hour. do that until he is on a good schedule.

  • That usually when my kids hit a bump in the nap road. I would try not forcing him to take a nap, for a few days and see what happens. if he's tired enough, he will fall alseep at nap time. If not, he might go to bed earlier. I feel you on the late bedtimes. When i started with kids, I worked until 7pm, so my kids have always been 9-10pm bedtimers.

  • usually i just lay down w/ him to get him to nap. we co sleep(not by choice anymore lol) so i think he naturally got into going to bed around 10-11 bc that's when we do. so when i lay w/ him at nap time (we usually lay down right at 2) he falls asleep 15-30min later and sleeps usually 2hrs. in the mornings he isn't getting up until 8:30-9(thank God lol!) so thats why i dont do the early nap (11 or noon kinda thing)
