Is ICE out of control in Detroit?

DETROIT, April 7 (UPI) -- Federal immigration agents stalked Detroit Hispanics dropping off their children at school and then grabbed them as illegal aliens, a state lawmaker alleged.

"Without warrants," six U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents "stalked parents from across southwest Detroit," Democratic State Rep. Rashida Tlaib alleged outside Hope of Detroit Academy, a charter public school for children in grades kindergarten through eighth grade.

"Some parents were trapped inside the school because they were too terrified and frightened to leave because they thought they would get arrested," said Ryan Bates, director of the Alliance for Immigrants Rights and Reform-Michigan.

  • I read an article on this the other day about this. Their behavior was deplorable. this is from Detroit ICE's operating policies.
"Ice personnel should refrain from conducting enforcement actions or investigate activities at or near sensitive community locations such as schools, places of worship, and funerals and other religious ceremonies, except in limited circumstances as set forth within this memorandum. Such restraint strikes a balance between our law enforcement responsibilities and the public's confidence in the ICE executes it's mission"

  • As a teacher that would piss me off.... they have no right to interrupt all those kids learning time and make school seem unsafe (beause they are taking mommys and daddies away.) they need to find a better way to conduct themselves.

  • No Anon?

How about the children and families who were at the school not breaking the law? I've never been to that school but my guess is that they don't have a spereate space for legals and illegals.

Alleged what? That they showed up at an elementary school? That they broke their own code. The articles I have read on this issue all show that the agency itself is leaning in the direction of wrong doing.
