I NEED to know how one can get

Pubic lice? Obviously I am not stupid, but I need to know if they can be picked up from a public bathroom or if you must have sex with someone infected with them to get them? Please, please, this is very important to me...

  • CDC website:
How did I get pubic lice?
Pubic lice usually are spread through sexual contact and are most common in adults. Pubic lice found on children may be a sign of sexual exposure or abuse. Occasionally, pubic lice may be spread by close personal contact or contact with articles such as clothing, bed linens, or towels that have been used by an infested person. A common misunderstanding is that pubic lice are spread easily by sitting on a toilet seat. This would be extremely rare because lice cannot live long away from a warm human body and they do not have feet designed to hold onto or walk on smooth surfaces such as toilet seats

  • I don't know for sure, but I believe you can get it from a toilet seat, yes. Kind of like how you can get head lice from using someone else's comb/brush. It's been a long time since I took a school health class, but I'm pretty sure that was a way you could get it.

  • You can get it from bed sheets or toilet seats, but remember when they're off the body, its cold and they'll either freeze or starve to death very quickly. It is much more likely that you would get it from someone who has them. If you're being fed a story about getting it from a toilet seat, I would be very be honest, I wouldn't buy it at all.

  • Most likely they come from person to person contact.

  • A toilet seat nope, person to person yes. lice need to be warm and feed. A toilet seat doesn't have the environment for them to survive. Someone is not being honest with you sweety. I could be totally wrong but I would Google it to find out for sure.

  • Yes, you can get them from a toilet seat. In college, I took a human sexuality course. I'll never forget that little older lady demonstrating how to squat over the toilet seat to avoid catching 'crabs'. She said they could live up to 24 hours & the paper protector will not protect you. She recommends hovering over the toilet seat in public.

  • I don't think so.
That sounds like an old wives tale. Everything I have ever seen says it's perfectly safe to sit on a public toilet.

  • ok now that I am itching all over from this post....

Everything has been posted. I know someone who stayed at a rather skeezy hotel and got pubic lice. The hotel has since closed but they were not cleaning the linens and towels correctly for a public establishment.
