What do I feed these kids?!

In my house I don't feed a lot of junk. Usually lol. Sometimes we fall off the band wagon, but usually we do pretty well.

I babysit 3 kids who are fabulous children and we get along great in every aspect except that they won't eat ANYTHING I make. One of them will sometimes eat peanut butter and jelly. They like smoothies... as long as I make them with flavored yogurt (I usually do plain to avoid the extra sugar). But that's, like, it. They don't like healthy, whole foods, they like junk. And I'm not willing to feed my family junk on their behalf.

I'm not one to judge what they feed their kids at home. They're great parents and the kids are well taken care of. But I just want to feed my family healthier.

I need some snack ideas for these children. Something that is healthy enough to feed my family and tasty enough to feed them. I've tried fresh fruit, whole grain muffins, whole grain pasta... I even had pizza the other day and they wouldn't eat that! WTH? lol.

  • Popcorn is a good snack if you get the unbuttered kind, trail mix, non-fat frozen yogurt... just a few. There is also a website called healthy kids or something that can give you some ideas. GL!

  • Offer only things you would feed your kid. They should eat or starve. They shouldn't be catered to anymore than you own kids. If they don't want to eat, too bad.

  • Maybe you could ask the parents to provide the food their kids eat while they are there?

  • Sammy, I've thought of that, but my 2 year old would really want to eat what they have lol. So it would turn into them feeding my kid, and feeding her junk on top of it. So.... I just don't think that's a great idea.

    cheese cubes

whole wheat noodles in a mac and cheese or pasta with sauce type dish

fresh fruit with 'whipped cream" type thing actually made with plain yogurt

  • I could come up with ideas all day, but, really..if they are used to junk, they WON'T ever eat healthy.

  • kids dont no how to starve themselves, so i would keep offering them the things you feed your own children, you shouldnt have to stress out about what a kid will or will not eat. they eat or dont, its up to them. your not refusing to feed them or anything like that, once you stick to your guns they will realize its your way or no way. good luck!
