Do you get a better refund making more money or less money with a child dependent

my boyfriend, his dad, and i were talking about taxes and his dad said the best refund year he ever had was the year he made 10,000 with a child and he ended up getting 7,000 back for a refund. so my boyfriend said "well i've definitely made more than that" as if to say that his refund would be better than that because he made more money and has a child. so which is it. if you have a child do you get a better refund when you make more or less money

  • There is alot involved besides child credit for a refund. If you dont own a home and are low income you get earned income credit and how much you get depends on how much you earned. If you didnt earn much then it is less, if you are on the higher end of EIC again not that much, if you make in between then you get the most. Hope that makes sense. If you make too much to qualify for EIC you get a $1000 tax credit per child.
