How much should we spend on groceries?

For food for the entire 7 day week(b/l/d) plus snacks, plus toiletries, how much would you expect a family of 2 adults(one pregnant) and one toddler to spend on groceries a week/month? Why?

  • Not much. I have 4 growing kids and a husband (so 6 of us) and I can do all that on as little as $100 a month some months, but up to $400/month. I would hope you could do it on $100 or less per week.

  • We are just two adults here. Kids are grown and out of the house. We spend $400-$800 a month on just us.

  • I think a reasonable amount would be $75/week but you could go way higher or lower depending on what you like to eat and whether or not you shop sales, clip coupons, etc. I spend around $100/week on my family of 7 and we eat pretty good off of that, but I definitely shop smart! It just depends on your budget and what works for you.

  • I would say no more than $80 a week if you watch sales at ALL. I do 2 adults, 2 children, and I'm pregnant for $80 a week and with coupons and planning, I could get that down to about $50/wk if I had to.

  • Whatever YOU are comfortable spending. Prices vary from region to region so what someone can spend in the Midwest will not get someone living in New York the same things.

  • "For those just starting out in the frugal lifestyle, I recommend they start with $15 per person per week."

holy crap that is CRAZY^ that would be 45/wk for all three of us. idk if thats including things other than just food(razors, toilet paper, etc.) but that is CRAZY lol

  • mom23girlz where do you get your coupons (paper or online, store of manufacturer?) & do you do a meal plan thing or what do you mean planning?

  • With just DD and myself, we spend about $70 per week. I usually do not have time to clip coupons -- but would MAKE time if any stores offered triple coupons! :-)
