How often do you serve multiple carbs in one meal, like bread if you're having a pasta dish?

I only do it for one certain meal, and then it's brown rice & biscuits. I don't see a need or reason to have multiple carbs in one meal. I often wonder why some moms make both mac & cheese and mashed potatoes with something, or bread to go with spaghetti, things like that.

  • You have to have bread with soak up the sauce!!! We always have bread with a child also....they go together like pb and jelly! Otherwise I don't usually make more than one. Carbs are not the devil though. It's all about portion control.

  • Spaghetti was made to go with garlic bread ;p

I think this is an interesting question because many common american meals contain multiple ingredients that are carbs. Pizza made in most traditional ways contains multiple sources of carbs. But if you are strictly referring to different dishes then I'd say I don't really serve multiple carb side dishes. Probably because most of my dishes are plant based.

  • I don't really eat those types of carbs....bread, pasta, starchy anything. I usually do carbs in the form of fruits and vegetables. Anyway to answer your question, for dinner for example I will have 70-80% vegetables and 20-30% is protein.

  • I love carbs so I serve bread with everything. My dad makes delicious bread so we always had that growing up.

  • I am guilty too...there are some things that are "paired" together like pizza and bread sticks, or spaghetti and garlic bread. I do try to avoid multiple starches, but sometimes if I am making a full meal like turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing, rolls, I start thinking about all the carbs in the food!

  • We have bread everytime we have something it can be dipped into, ie pasta, gravy or soups. My husband grew up this way and his parents are European.
