Should I leave the strawberries out or cover them?

I have some baby strawberry plants in a pot in my yard. Over night it's going to freeze and snow. Not a hard freeze, just about 30 degrees, 1-2 inches snow. I know strawberries are a cool-weather crop, do I cover them with garbage bags or let them taste the snow?

  • You need to cover them. If the temps get down to freezing it will damage the plant for sure. But be sure to remove the cover in the morning so they can breathe and warm up in the sun.

  • I'm not a gardener, so I can't swear this is correct, but to the best of my knowledge, frost damages strawberries, so covering them is probably best. It's not going to hurt to cover them anyway, right? I'm pretty sure though that they do need to protected from frost.
