My 13 mo old son refuses to eat table food.

We began offering him mashed potatoes, mashed squash etc at around 8 mos. and he has been spitting out table foods ever since. He does eat applesauce, yogurt, and crunchy foods ie, graham crackers, Gerber puffs and Cheerios, but mostly only dry foods. Our ped is suggesting he go to a "Food Clinic". Does any of this behavior sound familiar to anyone else? He is not gaining weight..he is about 25lbs..but not losing either. He has always beeen a fussy, colicky baby and has been on Alimentum since 4 mos. Very active physically . At wit's end!

  • Weight sounds normal for a child that age. And eating habits sound totally normal. Just continue to offer him different foods. different texture, colors etc. especially around this age is this eating behavior normal.

If he doesnt eat what you give him, dont resort to crackers and applesauce. thats more of a snack food. Hell eventually learn that what you put in front of him at the table, he eats.

  • my son is 22 months & weight about 25 lbs so his weight sounds normal.. offer him small portions, let him eat when he wants but only what you offered him, only allow him crackers/applesauce for snack.. kids will eat if hungry enough.. as he gets older you can train him to eat when you want him to eat around 4 yr old. try to make finger foods if possible kids love eating with their hands.. don't pressure him to eat, he will eat when he is hungry.
