Cloth diaper question.......

when you wash them, how do you get all that odor out of them? I have a friend that when she washes them that they still smell bad. What do you use?

  • I use home made laundry detergent and have not had any issues with a foul odor.

  • Bleach would/should help with that. Also using liquid fabric softener in a downy ball would be better than dryer sheets and maybe even the sports detergent since it seems to be stronger smelling

  • With cloth diapers you shouldn't use any scented detergents or fabric softner, they could decrease the absorbancy of the cloth. Tell her to put some vinegar in the wash. I never had a problem with smelly cloth diapers before but would use the vinegar just in case. I use it when the kids have an accident because I find that one wash dosen't always get the pee smell out of the sheets.

  • Baking soda works wonders put it on the diapers when there done soaking before you put them in the wash sprinkle it on and let it sit til the dampness of the diaper soaks through the soda! Then was away!

  • try one cup of PEROXIDE for a load. or a little cap full for one. I just read that it works on EVERYTHING!!! try it!

  • Try the peroxide, bleach might be too harsh. Vinegar should work, too.
