To those that get wic

I had wic before when my oldest (almost 6) was a baby and while I was pregnant with her then I also had it with my youngest until she was a little over 1 then I stopped getting it. I just stopped going. Well I am pregnant again almosr 23 weeks so I was thinking about going back up there to get it and to see if we are elegibal. We are a famly of 4, but do they count the undborn baby too or no? How much do you have to make a week? I don't remember how to apply and I don't remember do you get the coupons the same day as your first appointment? What do you get now adays? I know it was about to change when I stopped getting it. What else if anything do I need to know I can't remember anything.

  • I have custody of my two nieces, and Foster services help me get wic, but when I got this teaching job, I wasn't qualified anymore. I found this chart, hope it helps.

  • it never hurts to go up there. im not sure b/c it varies as to the cut off point. we are a family of 5 getting wic for 2 out of the 3 kids. *ones over 5 now* and we make less than 30 K a year take home. they dont count the baby untill its born but they do gie it to pregnant mommies. you get benefits the same day but it takes fooorever.lol. we now have the wic electronical card. its awesome!

  • Besides the voucher for the bread and such you get one for vegetables and fruit. You do get it the first appointment if you are eligible. You need proof of income and ID. That's all I remember.

  • I am not sure if the income amounts are national or not.... cost of living in New York, for example, is alot different than in the country. I think every state and possibly county tweaks their dollar amounts. Almost EVERY wic office has a website though. Or just stop by. A pregnant woman will almost ALWAYS qualify

  • The Electronic card replaced the coupons in a lot of states (TX and MI i know for sure). It keeps track of what you have left and what you've used. Every time you use the card, your receipt has a recap of that info. I actually like it a lot better than having the coupons.
