What do you do when your child(ren)?

are always asking to eat at McDonalds or Burger King or some place else when you are out running errands or doing other things? How do you tell them that you can't afford to go to those places all the time?

  • Have them prepare their OWN snacks so that they feel included with choices. Don't feel like you are burdening your child(ren) by telling them "we don't have the money for that right now". They need to learn that although we like take-out, it is a priveledge. Believe me I had to teach my two the same lesson.

  • I just flat out tell them no, we don't have the money. They have heard that answer so many times now they rarely aks anymore.

  • Take snacks with you or make sure they eat before you leave the house. Also try not to run errands around meal times. No matter what be firm and stick to no as your answer.

  • If I'm going out for a long time with my DS, I pack a small lunch cooler with snack or a lunch. I would just tell them that it isn't healthy for them, but you did pack something good for them to eat.

  • The truth is always best! And maybe eat before going out to do errands, and pack a snack bag...or put snacks in the car, so that you are always prepared! Be sneaky, it works great!
