  • Yes. My kids in fact all knew how to pump gas on their own before they ever got drivers permits. Id say by the time they were 13ish.

  • How old? I used to help my dad pump gas starting probably at around 8. If they're trustworthy and you watch them I think it's okay.

  • I let my 11 yo, he needs to learn sometime! I figure if he's old enough to help my husband change the oil, he can handle pumping gas - but I didn't let him until he was around 8-9.

  • My 11 year old goes inside to pay for gas, but doesn't use the pump. I would probably let him start pumping gas around 13-14, but not before.

  • Well it depends I explain to my 6 yr old how the gas pump works, you know the buttons and what not and how to read the numbers/prices on the gas tank/ pump but he will have to be at least 10 or 11 before I let him handle the hose/ nozzle part

  • Wow Anon, you sure sound like YOU know it all. Funny. Anyway, I would, when they're about 8 or 9. My little sister has helped before, and she'll be 9 this month. I wouldn't let them do it alone, obviously, until they're a teenager (like my other sister). I used to help when I was a bigger kid, 10 or so.

  • Probably around 9 or so although we have kids that age and we've never let them. My son is 9 1/2 and I could see him helping and then doing it on his own at 10 or 11 (which is about how old I was when I started pumping it on my own). He's already mowing the lawn (he's the size of an 11-12yo).
