Gift Help Needed Please

My teenage son was taken to a 5 star resort in another country by his buddy's parents for spring break. I would like to bring the parents a thank you when I pick my son up... but what to bring?

My first thought was two NICE ($50ish) bottles of wine and a hand written thank you... with a follow up thank you from my son.

What are your thoughts?  Should I spend more? Is wine ok?  If wine is ok what kind? I was going to get a recommendation at the store for a Meritage and a Cabernet.
