  • Here is what I say to those who use the "why aren't they in the history books" reasoning... They are in the history books. BUT, as with all spiritual beings they are there as mythic creatures. It's assumed that they are hallucinations or simply fable because they are not physical. Yet, God, Angels and other Spirit creatures who are accepted as fact by popular religion are considered to be completely real, even though they are not physical.

What's more, until just a few decades ago creatures such as the "Kraken" (known today as the Colossal Squid) were also considered to be completely mythic. However we have since discovered that they are in fact out there...

So, why is it if we have discovered creatures which were once considered to be myth and we can accept the existence of God (for the most part) even though we can't physically find him, why is belief in nature spirits so unacceptable or off the wall?

  • For thousands of years records and beliefs were passed down orally. We tend to take these oral traditions with a grain of salt. But there is truth to them. I find it amazing how we can look at cultural beliefs and traditions from all over the world, see how they each picture the same creatures and then discredit modern day sightings as "make believe" or something even less honorable. It would make sense to me that if sightings of these creatures has been taking place since before documented times and have continued to today, maybe we should stop labeling them so readily and accept that there is factual creatures behind them.

  • Fantasy. I would hazard a guess that the idea of fairies originally grew from something mundane, like butterflies....just as what people once thought of as "mermaids" were actually manatees.
