3 Bumps

Please read my response if you already answered. Did anyone have their abdominal muscles seperate during their pregnancy?

If you had this happen did they come back together after your baby was born? I have to have a c-section and my Dr. told me he could sew them back together while he was in there. This happened with my 1st pregnancy but they came back together with exercise and time, but I am thinking it may be more difficult the 2nd time around and curious if I should have him sew them while there. Any advice or personal experience appreciated.

  • Abdominal muscles tear and separate during every pregnancy. No amount of exercise can ever make them the same.

I have never ever heard of a Dr "fixing" them after a c section.

  • That's how pregnancy works. I have never heard of a doctor sewing them together.

  • I've never heard of them being sewn back together. I think I would just exercise. I have two children and my abdominal muscles are doing well :o) Don't worry, it will be all right. Good luck with your new expectant arrival!! Congrats!

  • My SIL had to have surgery to repair hers after her twins were born. Of course, she was carrying two 7+ pound babies, so I'm sure that contributed to the extent of damage she sustained.

  • I should probably add, My SIL's muscles actually detached, so surgey was her only option.

  • So everyone has this large vetical bump (about 2 inches wide) from breastbone to belly button. Nobody I show has ever seen it. If it's normal then thats great.

  • I had them completely separate during my 2nd pregnancy. Felt like a zipper coming undone from the top of my belly to my pelvic bone. Hurt like hell but then didn't bother me after except that I was completely unable to control my abdominal muscles. You wouldn't believe how much you use them unconsciously while you are pregnant. My stomach seemed to double in size, lol. My back ached even more because I had no control over my growing stomach. It actually took years for them to reconnect. In that time I got pregnant again and it sucked. I started showing way earlier than any of the others because I couldn't hold my stomach in at all. Then just before I got pregnant with my 4th (2 1/2 years after #3 was born) I realized I could control my stomach muscles again. I haven't had issues since, even after 2 pregnancies.

  • I have never had to have a c-section, but I think I would definitely take him up on the offer to sew them back together if he was willing. I can't imagine it would hurt your effort to get your stomach back.

Mine have been shredded 3 times, but my skin has been the worst part. I can get my stomach muscles back and lose the weight, but I end up with this wrinkly belly skin that my mother has too. Ahhh...genetics!
